Welcome to the transcribed version of the web-comic, Camomile. The comic is a newspaper-style joke-a-week format, so as such, I did not want to bog down the experience by providing lengthy character and setting descriptions up front. For the most part, transcriptions will be written to only introduce visual descriptive elements that are important to the moment at hand. I don’t think it will hamper the experience to allow many of the comic’s visual elements to remain in the reader’s imagination until directly clarified by the content of various comics, but for those who want the full visual experience upfront, or wish to read them once they have had a taste of the comic and know that it’s something they wish to invest time into, descriptions of main characters and settings will be provided on a seperate page, at jezmmart.com/chamomilescript000

Comic #1 - Tea

Panel 1
We are looking inside an averagely-stocked kitchen fridge at an empty glass pitcher.

Panel 2
Camomile is revealed to be looking into the fridge in confusion and says “Who drank the last of the ice tea and put the empty jug back into the fridge?”

Panel 3
The view zooms in on Camomile’s forehead as she thinks to herself, after a long pause (indicated by a large empty space in her thought bubble) “I live by myself.”

Panel 4
She closes the fridge and looks around behind her, squinting her eyes in distrust and says “Still gonna direct my grief towards an unspecified third party regarding this matter.”

Comic #2 - Dog

Panel 1
The scene is on a pathway surrounded by grass in a public park. Camomile is bending down and reaching her hand out to greet a small brown dog, who is standing next to it’s owner, a middle-aged, posh-looking woman in a dress. Camomile says “Oh good goodness, your dog is so cute. May I?”

Panel 2
We see just the posh lady as she responds with her eyes closed in a proud manner, “Oh of course you can my dear! Ruffly is very friendly…”

Panel 3
She is cut off mid-word as she opens her eyes and looks surprised, saying “Wait, what are you doing?”

Panel 4
We see Camomile has walked a small distance away down the path, holding the dog in her arms, and is now standing to look back towards the posh lady.

Panel 5
Camomile turns to fully face the lady, who is now looking annoyed. Camomile says “You said that I could. Has there been a misunderstanding?”

Comic #3 - Pet

Panel 1
Camomile is sitting on the customer side of the coffee bar in her best friend Brianna’s café, The Cubby. She has a cup of tea in front of her and is leaning forward, resting her arms on the bar. Brianna stands at the other side of the bar with a concerned expression, asking “Why would you try to keep someone’s dog anyway? You told me you’re afraid of the responsibility of having a pet.” Camomile says “Yeah, maybe I should get a gerbil or something to get over my fear?” Brianna says “Um, start simpler. Like, a pet rock.” Camomile says “Oh, I could handle that!”

Panel 2
The scene has changed to a beach, where Camomile is on the sands right near the sea’s edge, with seagulls flying around in the distance. She is bending down to pick up a stone.

Panel 3
Camomile smiles, proudly holding up the stone level with her face. The stone is shiny and blue in colour. Camomile says “My son.”

Panel 4
Out of nowhere, a seagull flaps around in front of her, making calling sounds loudly in her face, causing her to scream and let go of the stone, which flies into the air between them.

Panel 5
Camomile watches stoically across the sea as the seagull begins to fly away, the stone now held in it’s beak.

Panel 6
The view hasn't changed, Camomile is still watching across the sea as the seagull is now far in the distance.

Panel 7
The view hasn’t changed, Camomile is still watching across the sea, the seagull now completely gone from sight.

Panel 8
The view hasn’t changed, Camomile is still watching across the sea. It is now sunset.

Comic #4 - Too

Panel 1

Camomile is at a sandwich fast-food restaurant called Sammiches. She is taking a paper bag containing her meal from the counter near the till point, where the restaurant worker on the other side, Vienna, is putting her payment into the till. Both are smiling at each other, Vienna says “Thank you, enjoy your meal!” and Camomile responds “You too!”

Panel 2

Camomile is walking away from the counter with a panicked look on her face as she nervously chews the handles on the paper bag in her hands. The colour palette has shifted to an intense cool blue colour to highlight her anxiety as she thinks “Oh no, I said ‘you too’, I’m an idiot, I can never eat here again.”

Panel 3

The colour palette has shifted back to normal as, from off-panel, Vienna interrupts Camomile’s thoughts by saying “Hey”, and Chamomile, still chewing the bag, glances over to Vienna.

Panel 4

Vienna is leaning on the counter to speak to Caamomile, who has now turned her head back fully to look at Vienna. Vienna says “I know what you’re thinking, it happens all the time so please, let me alleviate your paranoia for you.” Camomile says “Oh?”

Panel 5

Vienna, with a completely neutral, serious expression, says “Yes, you are an idiot, and yes you should never eat here again.”

Panel 6

Camomile is politely smiling but with a shocked look in her eyes and says “Oh.”

Panel 7

Camomile turns away from Vienna again to leave, still looking surprised, and says “Thanks.” Behind her, Vienna is making an A-OK gesture with her hand and says “No prob.”

Comic #5 - Posted

Panel 1

The scene is outdoors during the day in an undefined area of the town. Camomile has her phone raised in the air and her other hand to her face, making a sideways peace gesture as she poses for the photo she is taking of herself.

Panel 2

Camomile is now looking down at her phone and typing as Brianna enters the scene from behind her, who is touching her right arm with her left hand as if wiping something off on it. Camomile says “And posted.” Brianna says “You’re getting quite a following online for your photos lately.” Camomile says “Yeah I am, some of them even think I’m actually a professional model.” Brianna says “To be honest it could be worth pursuing. You want to, right?” Camomile says “Yeah I…” but trails off.

Panel 3

Camomile, still looking at her phone, gets a concerned look on her face and says “Wow this selfie is getting way more Likes than usual. Wonder why… Oh.” Brianna is looking over her shoulder at the phone and says “Oh? Oh what?” Camomile says “Uhh…”

Panel 4

We see a close look at Camomile’s phone screen, which is showing the photo she just took as it appears online. In the background of Camomile posing, Brianna is standing around with her finger up her nose. The iconography on screen states that the photo has 23 Likes and 8 Comments already. A few of the comments are visible on screen as follows. A user called Darkness Returns says “Cute! But… behind you!?” A user called Haunted Angel says “Is she doing what I think she is? My B.F.F. would do that on purpose, lol.” A user called Champion says, in all capital letters, “She’s picking her nose L.M.A.O.O.O.O.” The comments continue out of the panel’s view, with the next one only behind half-visible.

Panel 5

Brianna is behind Camomile looking furious and desperate, the colour palette red with her anger, reaching her arms out towards Camomile threateningly and screaming “Delete it!”. Camomile, in the foreground, coloured normally, is looking away with an amused expression and her hand on her cheek, feigning embarrassment, and says “Brianna, in public, really…” Brianna’s screaming continues as she yells “Delete it now!”

Comic #6 - Photoshoot

Panel 1

We’re at Brianna’s café, The Cubby. Camomile has come in, arms flailing in the air with an anxious expression, and Brianna, who is behind the coffee bar in the foreground, is turning to look at her. Camomile says “Oh my goodness, someone actually e-mailed me to ask if I wanted to do a photoshoot for a local health magazine after seeing my photos online!” Brianna says “Wow Cammie, that’s great!” There is a vibration noise from Camomile’s waist. Camomile says “Ah, that’ll be them now! Hang on!”

Panel 2

We see a close view of Camomile’s phone in her hand. A video call is on the screen, a professional looking woman is seen, taking up the majority of the screen, while a small view showing Camomile’s video is in the corner. Camomile has her hand on the side of her neck, looking a little anxious, but the woman calling her is smiling. The woman says “Hi Camomile, it’s Joslyn from the magazine! How are you today?”

Panel 3

Camomile, looking down at her phone in her hand, still in the same anxious state, responds “I’m thank you, how fine are you, hi.”

Panel 4

Camomile has calmed down slightly and continues looking at her phone as Joslyn speaks. “Uh, yes. Well just letting you know we’ll have an in-person meeting with you on Thursday, but it’ll all be straightforward. We just need some shots of you posing with a granola bar. The article is about which ones are healthiest.”

Panel 5

Camomile looks a little more relaxed and excited. She says “Ooh, okay, what flavour will it be?”

Panel 6

We see Joslyn on the video call again, looking just a little concerned. She says “It… it’s just… you’re not gonna be eating the bar, just posing with it.”

Panel 7

Camomile is glancing away from her phone and smiling sheepishly. She says “Right, right, of course.”

Panel 8

Camomile covers her phone with her other hand and turns around to look at Brianna, who is still behind the coffee bar. Camomile has a stern expression and says “This modelling biz ain’t the high life people think it is, Bri.” Brianna looks slightly exasperated at this.

Comic #7 - Jerks

Panel 1

Brianna and Camomile are walking around outside in an undefined area of town during the day. Brianna is drinking through a straw from a fast food takeaway cold drinks cup, as Camomile looks at her phone. Camomile says “Man there are some jerks online. Look what people are saying on my selfies. I’m gonna be a professional model by next week. Disrespectful, y’know?”

Panel 2

Camomile is holding her phone out for Brianna to look at the screen. Brianna looks confused and says “Cammie, they love them.”

Panel 3

Camomile leans in closer to Brianna, pointing at the phone’s screen and says “But look, look!” Brianna looks up towards Camomile and says “Yeah, they’re saying you should brush your hair.”

Panel 4

Camomile raises her arms in the air with a look of shocked disbelief on her face, saying “I know!”

Panel 5

Camomile has lowered her arms again, awaiting Brianna’s response. Brianna nonchalantly takes a long slurp of her drink.

Panel 6

Brianna frees a finger from her cup to point into the air as she says “Cammie, professional models brush their hair”, but Camomile interrupts the last words of her sentence, suddenly slouching back with a defeated frown on her face, yelling “But it’s boring!”

Comic #8 - Hat

Panel 1

We’re at Brianna’s Café, the Cubby. Brianna is using a cloth to cleaning a table with cups and saucers stacked on one end, and is looking up as Camomile enters the scene, wearing a silly-looking, bright purple top hat with bright green and orange patterning on it. Camomile says “Morning Brianna, can I get a tea?” Brianna has a serious look on her face and after a brief pause, says “Why are you wearing that hat?” Camomile says “I often wear a hat, what are you talking about?” Brianna says “No, why are you wearing, that, hat”, emphasising the word “that”.

Panel 2

Camomile looks desperate and says “For… fashion. It’s the fashion today.”

Panel 3

Brianna narrows her eyes in disbelief at Camomile.

Panel 4

Brianna quickly leans across the table and tries to reach for the hat, but Camomile rears back and holds onto the brim to keep it in place. Camomile yells “No, get your own!”

Panel 5

Brianna holds her hand to her chest, looking disappointed. She says “Come on Cam, I’m your best friend. Whatever you’re hiding, you can show me.” Camomile says “Okay, okay…”

Panel 6

Camomile puts her hand on her hip and turns away slightly from Brianna with a proud smirk on her face, using her free arm to present a second top hat, similar in design to hers but bright pink in colour. Brianna is looking at Camomile, eyes narrowed again, completely unimpressed.

Panel 7

The view and body language of the characters hasn’t changed as the two stand motionless for a moment, Camomile still holding out the hat and Brianna not taking it.

Panel 8

The view hasn’t changed, but Brianna has now swiftly flicked her arm, and the cloth she was holding, up into the air, knocking the top hat from Camomile’s head by the brim. Camomile looks up and screams in a panic as it falls off, revealing two brightly coloured objects tangled up in her hair.

Panel 9

Brianna looks surprised and points at Camomile’s head, as Camomile, ashamed looks away from her in the foreground. Brianna yells “Hairbrushes!?” as the two brightly coloured objects tangled in Camomile’s hair are revealed to be exactly that.

Comic #9 - Hairbrushes

Panel 1

Following on from the previous comic, Brianna’s arms are outstretched in disbelief as she shouts “Why do you have hairbrushes stuck in your hair!?” Camomile is pointing at Brianna accusingly, and shouts “You told me I should brush my hair more and I did and this happened!” Brianna shouts “But why two!?”

Panel 2

Camomile is gazing away from Brianna and meekly scratching her cheek with one finger as she says “Well after the first one got stuck I figured I could like, you know… use another one… to pry it out?”

Panel 3

Brianna is staring blankly in disbelief at Camomile.

Panel 4

She opens her mouth to say something, starting with “Ah”.

Panel 5

But she stops, furrows her brow and holds her fist to her mouth as she thinks.

Panel 6

She raises her arm, pointing into the air and again begins to talk, starting with “You”.

Panel 7

But again stops, lowering her finger again looking concerned.

Panel 8

She puts her hands on her hips, looking away from Camomile again in thought.

Panel 9

She tilts her head back to look at Camomile with an intense stare for a moment.

Panel 10

Finally, Brianna raises her hands, palms upwards in defeat as she says “I got nothing.” Camomile looks away in shame.

Comic #10 - Problem

Panel 1

The scene is in a hair salon. Camomile is sitting in the customer chair, wearing a barber’s sheet across her body. The hairbrushes from earlier are still tangled in her hair. A young adult female hairdresser is stood behind her, looking at the mess, and says “Ah, I see the problem. This shouldn’t be too hard to fix, let me just confer with my manager as to the best way to go about it.” Camomile says “Okay, thank you.”

Panel 2

Camomile closes her eyes and sighs.

Panel 3

There is a tapping noise from something out of view as Camomile opens her eyes, noticing the sound.

Panel 4

Camomile looks to her right, at the large front window of the salon that looks out into the street. On the other side of the window is the seagull that took her pet rock at the beach. It is holding the rock in its beak still.

Panel 5

The view is now an intense, dramatic close-up to the seagull, as it gives an exaggerated, taunting grin towards Camomile, the rock shining in its beak.

Panel 6

This is followed by an equally intense, dramatic close-up to Camomile, as a surprised look of realisation crosses her face.

Panel 7

We see a close-up of the hairdresser as she returns and says “Sorry for the wait, let’s get started…”

Panel 8

The stops before the end of her sentence however, as the view zooms out to show that Camomile has disappeared from the seat, leaving the hairdresser standing there, looking confused. The zoom-out also reveals the hairdresser was holding an electric hair shaver in one hand, a book titled “Toupeé Catalogue” in the other.
